San Jose : The following are some of the hotels that we recommend for those who do not want to stay with a family. The prices listed are approximated for doubles and include tax and breakfast. Additional persons in the room is generally charged at $10 per night. We also offer hostels and shared-bath hotels but these are not listed. Hotel Aranjuez: (website) Casa Las Orquideas: (website) Hotel Jade y Oro: (website) Hotel Don Carlos (B&B): (website) Hotel D'Galah: (website) Located within minutes of the school and behind the University of Costa Rica , this is a cozy hotel with great service. It has a small pool and an area to sunbathe, as well as a spa and sauna. Rooms are nothing special but they are clean and the hotel is very convenient. $50. La Fortuna & Arenal: ARENAL PARAISO: (website) Very quaint hotel with pool, spa, hiking trails, restaurant, etc. Offers little bungalows with enclosed patio for gorgeous views of the volcano, especially at night. $75. MONTANA DE FUEGO: (website) Very similar to Arenal Paraiso, located a little closer to the volcano and hot springs . Its deluxe rooms are very well-located and not as close together as many of the other hotels. The rooms are spacious with fabulous views from the glass-enclosed porches. They also have mini-fridges. The service here is quite good. A spa is also on the premises. $115 TACOTAL: (website) This charming set of bungalows has an unobstructed view of the volcano. The hotel is close to town and the hot springs as well. It offers good service and friendly staff. $65. LAS CABANITAS: (website) This hotel has nice grounds with a pool and vegetation. The little bungalows are small but cute. The pool is also small. The hotel is usually quieter than most others. The volcano can be seen from here, although it is not close. The breakfast buffet is plentiful. $65. Monteverde: HOTEL HELICONIA: (website) This hotel has nice, large rooms made of wood with excellent views of the forest. It is also centrally-located, very close to the Monteverde Reserve. The staff is very helpful. The hotel offers an expensive restaurant, spa, jacuzzi and many tour services. $90 SAPO DORADO: (website) This is also a charming hotel with wooden cabins with gorgeous views. Some of them are located far from the main lobby but they are quiet. The hotel on a main road close to almost everything. The staff is helpful. There is a restaurant (expensive) with very good food. $90 Manuel Antonio: COSTA VERDE: (website) This hotel has some services, such as restaurant, hiking trails, pool, etc. It is located on a hill overlooking the ocean. It is a 5-10 minute bus ride from the hotel to the beach and national park. The rooms are huge with balconies where monkeys often hang out. $110-$120 HOTEL KARAHE: (website) This small hotel is not located on the beach but is very close to it with a great view. The gardens are very attractive and there is a nice atmosphere at the restaurant/bar. $75 Tortuguero: MAWAMBA LODGE: (website) This is a very attractive jungle lodge with spacious wooden rooms in a beautiful setting. The hotel is located in an ideal location-in between the canals of Tortuguero and the beach. So you can walk straight to the beach to see the turtles. There is also a pool and restaurant/bar on the grounds with excellent buffets. This all-inclusive lodge offers meals and all tours and activities. The guides are fabulous. $250 for 3 days. For those who are not interested in staying with a family, we recommend staying in one of the following hotels. The price difference is about $10 per person, per night additional to stay in the hotel for a double room and about $15 per night for a single. The price includes a light breakfast. HOTEL: If you are interested, please let us know. Hotel rooms 2. UNIVERSITY HOUSING (DORMS): The university housing is a convenient option for those who still want meals but do not want to live with a family. The dorms are located about 5 minutes from the Plaza and the language school. The rooms are single or double with a private bathroom and are adequately furnished but do not have linens or kitchens. They also offer a computer in the room that is equipped with internet access. The building offers a dining room, gym, tv room, library, garden, laundry room, a reception area and even maid service. We also work with another dorm building downtown that is similar The price is approx. $22 per day with meals for either choice. 3. APARTMENT RENTALS: The apartment rentals range from about $450 per month to $650 per month. Students also have the option of sharing an apt with other students from the school. The apartments are all very centrally located and are fully furnished. They include linens, cookware, dishes and washing machines. They usually do not have a phone. Some have tv’s and some do not.
