College Credit
FOR TEACHERS: Please contact us for information on how to receive continuing education credits for teachers. FOR STUDENTS: There are many ways to receive college credit for these types of programs. One way is to go through the school where you are currently studying. We can help you submit a proposal, letter, or whatever your school requires. Regardless of your current status as a student or where you are currently studying, you can receive college credit through California State University of Sacramento's College of Continuing Education department. There is an additional fee to receive units. Guidelines for independent study and travel: You can earn academic credit in the following way: one semester unit per week of travel. One to six units of undergraduate credit and one to four units of graduate credits are possible. For example, if you spend six weeks or more abroad, you can earn a maximum of four graduate units or six undergraduate units. For a two-week program, you can earn two units. In order to receive these units, you must attend a minimum of 30 hours of participation per unit. These hours are constituted by the time you spend traveling, in class, in cultural and extra-curricular activities, etc. There is a $145 PER CREDIT fee that is payable to Sac State . This is not included in your program fees through II TOURS. This credit can be earned through Interdisciplinary Studies or through the Spanish department. If you wish to have the credit in Interdisciplinary studies, you must study several academic disciplines, such as music, history, art, etc. The undergraduate course number through Sac State is 191 if you have completed at least 60 or more semester units prior to departure. Course #191 is considered to be an upper-division course, which can also be applied in some graduate programs. If you have completed less than 60 units, the course number is 91. For graduate students, the course number is 291. High school students may also participate if they have received approval from their high school and submit a letter from their principal stating that they are in good standing. CSUS is an accredited academic institution so the units it grants should be accepted at all other institutions. However, if you are planning to transfer, you may wish to consult with your new school. Any school in the CSU system, including CSUS, will accept up to 24 units of coursework through extension towards a degree. You will need a faculty sponsor from CSUS to review and approve your program. One will be assigned to you if you do not have one. This sponsor will review your materials and submit a grade. You should submit your materials for evaluation and grades prior to September 1 st for a summer program. The following materials are required by the College of Continuing Education: university-student agreement, travel study release form, registration and fee payment and the contract for Independent Travel Study. The Contract for Independent Travel Study Program for an undergraduate should include: a general description of the project, the objectives you plan to meet, how you plan to meet these objectives and the materials you plan to submit, as well as your flight schedule and detailed itinerary. ***(Please click here for a sample of such a proposal) You will also be required to keep a journal and submit it after the trip. For a graduate student, this process is slightly different. Please refer to the undergraduate requirements and then note the additional requisites from the College of Continuing Education's website (listed below) For additional information, as well as other downloadable forms, please visit the CCE's website at: www.cce.csus.edu/programs/ITSGuide2.htm
