ITINERARY DAY 1: Leave for Costa Rica. Upon arrival, members of the school will take you to the homestay. DAY 2: Placement test at school in the late morning. There will be a short orientation at 10:30am followed by a chance to use the internet, have lunch, change money, etc. We will go on a walking tour of San Jose after lunch and visit the National Museum.
DAY 3: Weekend to Arenal Volcano and Tabacon Resort. This 3-day excursion includes transportation by private bus, food, tours, hotel and entrance fees. We will begin the 4 hr drive to the town of La Fortuna at 9am. Upon arrival in La Fortuna, we will have lunch and check into our charming hotel with a beautiful view of the active volcano. We will have free time to swim or take a hike before heading to Tabacon Hot Springs. Dinner here before returning to hotel. DAY 4: After breakfast, we will take a short bus ride to a national reserve, followed by short hike to a gorgeous waterfall. There, we will swim and take lots of cute group pictures. Then we will go to lunch and then back to our hotel. In the afternoon, we will have the option of returning to the springs. Dinner is at a pizzeria. Overnight again in La Fortuna. DAY 5: Arenal Continued. Morning is free to rest, use the pool, etc. after breakfast. We will check out of the hotel at noon, eat lunch and return to San Jose by bus around 7pm. DAY 6: Morning pick-ups will begin at 7:15am. Morning tour to Café Britt Coffee Factory, an award-winning musical tour that explains the importance of coffee in the region. After the tour, lunch and classes from 1-4pm, followed by dance at 4pm. DAY 7: Morning tour of Cartago Church and Lankester Gardens. We will travel about 1-hour to the former capital of Costa Rica. The Basilica de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles, the patron saint of the country, is a beautiful church located here. We will also visit the Lankester botanical gardens before lunch. Classes run from 1-4pm, followed by dance for one hour. DAY 8: Today we will have a market tour to see two markets, including the large local market and an artisan market. We will then have lunch & return to San Jose for class from 1-4pm, followed by one hour of Salsa dancing and conversation hour.
DAY 9: We will leave at 7am for the 1-hour drive to Braulio Carrillo National Park, home to the famous Rainforest Aerial Tram. The tram ride lasts an hour and is followed by a one-hour nature walk. Return to San Jose for lunch & then classes from 1-4pm. Salsa offered at 4pm & cooking class at 5pm. We will then head to the welcome dinner at an elegant restaurant overlooking the lights of the city. This is a 1 ½ hr Costa Rican folkloric dance show & typical-food buffet dinner. Return to homes around 11pm. DAY 10: Morning visit of the historic National Theater and the Gold Museum. Afterwards, we will have lunch. A graduation ceremony will take place at 12:00pm, followed by classes at 1pm and conversation hour & dancing from 4-6pm. Classes from 1-4pm, followed by conversation hour and 1 hour of Salsa dancing. DAY 11: Trip to the Beach! We will leave at 9am and head to the Pacific Coast to Punta Leona Beach, located about 1 ½ hours from San Jose. Here we will check into our hotels and have free time. Dinner is included. Overnight here in this tropical paradise.
DAY 12: Free morning to relax on this beautiful beach. After checkout, return to San Jose. DAY 13: We will pick you up and take you to the airport for the return flight to the U.S. |
