The package includes:

  • Pre-trip presentation with brochures, videos and pertinent information such as what to pack, etc.
  • Roundtrip airfare from San Jose to Costa Rica
  • Private Transfers to and from the airport
  • 5 days of private Spanish School, with language classes (3 hours daily) and cultural classes (2 hours daily) in dance, conversation and cooking. Private classes will be a held with a maximum of 6 students.
  • Homestay with Costa Rican families.  Students will each be placed in a private room with a delightful family to ensure maximum opportunity to practice the language. Laundry service is included.
  • Breakfast and dinner is included each day with the family.
  • A welcome dinner at a lovely restaurant situated above San Jose and offers delicious food with a spectacular view of the city lights followed by a folkloric dance presentation with dancers in brightly colored dress.
  • 4 tours: Includes tours of the butterfly farm, the award-winning Café Britt coffee factory, a crafts market & Cartago & Basilica
  • One-half day of community service at a local kids center.  
  • 2 night, 3 day tour to Arenal Volcano & Tabacon. Includes transportation from San Jose to Fortuna, hotel, entrance fees into park and resort, and all meals. It visits Tabacon Hot Springs, the active Arenal volcano at night for a natural fireworks display and then to Fortuna Falls.
  • 2 nights, 3 day tour at Barcelo Playa Tambor, a five-star hotel: with hotel, private transportation, beach activities and all meals.
  • Medical Insurance plus trip cancellation insurance of $500.
  • $20 spending money and $26 departure tax

 

ITINERARY

THURSDAY, DAY 1: FLIGHT: Leave the U.S. in the morning. Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica via one stopover, in the evening. A bus will be waiting with members of the school to pick up the group and go to a hotel near the airport for the first night.

FRIDAY, DAY 2: TRIP TO ARENAL VOLCANO, FORTUNA WATERFALL AND TABACON HOT SPRINGS: After breakfast, we will leave for our trip to Arenal. We will arrive at La Fortuna town around 1:30pm. There will be with one stop along the way to use the restrooms, purchase some snacks or take pictures of the beautiful scenery of the cloud forest. All expenses included. After checking into the Hotel Arenal Springs (or similar) (triple rooms), spend time at the springs and have dinner there. It is often possible to see the active Arenal Volcano from here.

SATURDAY, DAY 3: ARENAL. Today we will visit the Fortuna Waterfall after breakfast. We will hike down for about 15 minutes to the waterfall. Here it is possible to swim or just enjoy the scenery. The rest of the day is free to swim at the hotel or relax. OR, option to do a tour or visit the Los Lagos Hot Springs. We will go to a local restaurant for dinner.

SUNDAY, DAY 4: ARENAL: Free time in the morning after breakfast.  After breakfast, you can swim at the hotel or relax and sleep in. We will have lunch at a nearby restaurant before leaving this area. We will return to San Jose at around 6:30pm. You will be home for dinner with the families.

MONDAY, DAY 5: FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! The families will take students to school today at 10am. We will have an orientation and placement test before lunch. Then we will eat lunch at the mall and have time to change money, use the internet, etc. CLASSES FROM 1PM TO 4PM. SALSA DANCE CLASS FROM 4PM TO 5PM. Return to the families by private bus at 6pm for dinner.
 
TUESDAY, DAY 6: COMMUNITY SERVICE. Today we will spend the morning doing a community service project at a local orphanage. We will spend approx. 3 hours here interacting with the kids. Then, we will return to San Jose for lunch. CLASS FROM 1 TO 4PM. SALSA DANCING AT 4PM AND CONVERSATION HOUR AT 5PM. We will return home after classes.

 

 WEDNESDAY, DAY 7: CAFÉ BRITT COFFEE FACTORY TOUR: Pick-ups begin at 7am. This award-winning musical tour explains the importance of coffee in the region in a musical show. It is also a great place to buy gifts for home. Return to San Jose in time for lunch and time to change money, etc. CLASS FROM 1 TO 4PM. SALSA & COOKING FROM 4PM TO 6PM.

WELCOME DINNER AT 6PM. We will leave from the school for a beautiful restaurant that overlooks the city lights. Dinner is a large buffet of typical foods. The show will last 1 ½ hours and there is an opportunity to dance with folkloric dancers. We will drop students off at homes at 10:30pm.

THURSDAY, DAY 8: CARTAGO CHURCH: Pick-ups begin at 8:30am. We will visit the former capital of the country, Cartago. Located about one hour from San Jose, this town is home to the Patron Saint of Costa Rica and the most beautiful church in the country. Every year thousands make pilgrimages here from all over Central America. Return to San Jose for lunch. SCHOOL IN THE AFTERNOON FROM 1PM TO 4PM. SALSA & CONVERSATION CLASSES FROM 4 TO 6PM. We will return home afterwards.

FRIDAY, DAY 9: CRAFT MARKET & SHOPPING: Pick-ups begin at 9am. We will stop at a local crafts market. Lunch will be early today & a short graduation ceremony takes place at 12. CLASS FROM 1 TO 4PM, FOLLOWED BY DANCING AND CONVERSATION UNTIL 6PM. Tonight we will go to the movies or bowling to celebrate the end of classes!

SATURDAY, DAY 10: PUNTA LEONA OVERNIGHT. Today we leave for the beach. Punta Leona is on the Pacific Ocean, about 2 hours away from San Jose. Upon arrival, we will check into the Punta Leona Beach Hotel (triple rooms.) Then, we will have lunch and free time to use the pool and go to the beach. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight here.

SUNDAY, DAY 11: Free time at the beach all day. Breakfast and dinner included. Lunch is on your own at the hotel.

MONDAY, DAY 12: After breakfast, be ready for the bus trip to the airport. Arrive to the U.S. in the evening.

 

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED:

  1. Lunches daily (except in Arenal)
  2. Optional excursion in Arenal
  3. Bowling or Movies charges
  4. Additional trip cancellation insurance above $500
  5. Additional expenses for teachers and students, such as taxis, phone cards, tips for baggage handlers, medical expenses, etc.
