The democratic tradition of 150 years makes Costa Rica an ideal place to learn Spanish and experience the warm hospitality the Latin American culture is famous for. Costa Rica is located in Central America between Nicaragua and Panama. It is known as one of the most peaceful countries in the world and hasn't even had an army since 1948. The ex-President Oscar Arias was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987. There are more teachers than policemen in the country, which makes it easy to understand why it has one of the highest literacy rates in the world, at 97%.
